Important Notice: 5.0 BETA Firmware
You have selected 5.0 BETA firmware. BETA firmware is a pre-release version that includes new features and improvements, while rare, BETA firmware could contain bugs or usability issues. Please consider the following information before proceeding:
What is BETA Firmware?
- Early Access: BETA firmware allows early access to new features that are not yet available in Stable Releases.
- Testing and Feedback: It is intended for users who are willing to provide feedback and help identify any bugs or issues.
- Potential Risks: There may be minor bugs, feature limitations, or performance issues.
Important Considerations
- Are you comfortable troubleshooting and reporting any issues?
- Do you understand the steps required to revert to a Stable Release if needed?
- Do you have time to update your firmware more frequently, knowing that some updates may require a wireless reprogrammer?
Recommended Action
If you are not familiar with BETA testing, we recommend selecting the Stable Release version instead for the highest level of stability and support. For more details on our firmware release process, please review our complete guide here. If you have questions or need further assistance, please reach out to our support team.
18R2 SMPTE Upgrade Kit
- $99.99
SMPTE (pronounced "simpty") is a way to shoot your fireworks show synchronized to music by sending an audio feed from your sound system to the COBRA 18R2 without using a COBRA Audio Box. You can also send the same audio feed to other systems (such as DMX and lighting) to synchronize them together with your COBRA system.
For more information including an introduction to SMPTE, see SMPTE Explained.
RCA Input
The upgrade kit includes a female RCA input plug with protective cap. Use the RCA input to receive the audio SMPTE signal into the 18R2. If you are connecting to an RCA source, you can purchase XLR to RCA adapters to best fit your connection requirements.
Easy to Install
Only a screwdriver is required to install the 18R2 SMPTE upgrade kit. No soldering as all connections are plug-and-play. Please reference our 18R2 SMPTE Upgrade Instructions for easy installation.
30 FPS Frame Rate Support
The 18R2 SMPTE Upgrade Kit supports audio files with 30 frames per second.
SMPTE Sensitivity Options
COBRA offers two SMPTE sensitivity options: timecode1 and timecode2 as defined with the COBRA 18R2 script file. Timecode1 allows the 18R2 to continue firing if a weak, corrupted, or lost SMPTE timecode signal is received. Timecode2 stops the 18R2 from firing if the signal is weak, corrupted, or lost. To learn more, see What is the difference between the timecode1 and timecode2 script argument value? .
Downloadable SMPTE Audio File
COBRA offers a sample 90 minute SMPTE time code MP3 file at 29.97 frames per second. You can also use an online SMPTE generator such as that available at http://elteesee.pehrhovey.net/
External USB Soundcard
While most computers have no trouble playing the SMPTE output file, we have found that some setups are unable to produce the desired SMPTE quality. We have included an external USB sound card with the SMPTE Upgrade Kit. You can use this external sound card if you find your specific setup is not playing the SMPTE file correctly.
Your purchase will include the below:
- SMPTE Upgrade PC Board
- SMPTE RCA Harness
- External USB Soundcard
- 3.5mm to Dual RCA Adapter Cable
- SMPTE Dust Cap
- 18R2 Back Enclosure
- 18R2 Battery Harness
